The Waterfront Writers was established in 1996, and is a collection of community based people who currently meet on Fridays during University term time from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Swarthmore Education Centre in Mutley Plain.
The organization has a formal constitution and its object is “to enable and empower as many people as possible to have access to, and take part in, and enjoy, writing, or expression through words, in any form, either for its own sake, or for performance or publication”. For its background, please click on the History link.
There is no annual subscription, but members are asked to pay £2.50 each time they attend.
It has a managing committee elected annually at the AGM. Please click on the Management link to view current committee members.
To assist in its activities and to promote the voice of writers generally it seeks to cooperate with other writing groups. Please see the Writing group links. It has had many activities and intends to continue in this way and to contribute to the community in general. Please click on the Activities link to see what we have done, and what we currently have planned.
Waterfront Writers is also a member of The Poetry Society. It has become a Poetry Society Stanza and can benefit from the facilities offered by the society and associating activities with other Stanzas. Please see Stanza link.
Finally, it offers members the opportunity to display their work on this site. Please see our poetry link and/or our prose link, where members’ work is on display.
